EMERGENCIES

Braces are perfectly safe and issues are rare. Sometimes, however, there are minor issues that need to be addressed.

SORENESS OR DISCOMFORT

When you first get your braces of have just had an adjustment, a bit of sensitivity or soreness is normal. This just means that your braces are working, and is usually temporary. Most folks are fine taking whatever they would normally take for a headache to alleviate the pain. If it’s severe or lasts several days, please get in touch with us.

IRRITATION

The inside of your mouth is going to have to get used to your new braces, and some irritation is normal. We’ll provide you with a special wax and teach you how to use it. This will decrease the irritation. This will lessen as your cheeks get used to your braces.

BROKEN BRACKETS & LOOSE WIRES

If you’ve broken a bracket or a wire has come loose, it’s not an emergency. You can use your special wax to hold things in place until we can see you. Give us a call to schedule a repair, but let us know right away if it’s an emergency.

PAIN, SWELLING OR INJURY

If you’ve sustained an injury to your head, face or mouth, you should immediately go to an emergency room. If you have an infected or broken tooth, see your regular dentist first, and then visit us for any necessary repairs. Once your tooth is fixed, we’ll evaluate your personal treatment plan and get the ball rolling again.
